Population Projection and Estimates
Population Projections are a basic requirement in planning for city’s development. These projections are primarily used as basis for estimating future needs for basic services, determining level of demand for facilities and utilities, economic-related needs and corresponding spatial requirements, among others.
Based on 2015 Census, the total population of City of Santiago is 134,830. The total household is 30,472 with an average household size of 4.4. The population growth rate decreased from 1.70 in 2010 to 0.39 in 2017. With the very low growth rate, it is expected that the population shall double after 177 years or in 2192.
However, based on City Health Office Reports every year more or less 3,000 children are born or 8 babies born per day. Hence, a population growth rate of 1.25% was computed from year 2000 to 2017 and shall be utilized to address the pressing demands of increasing population and development. Using the 1.25 PGR the doubling time is 55.2 years.
The present and projected size of the population serve as vital input in developing strategies addressing the future demands of the growing population. Table below indicates the population of the City of Santiago projected from 2017 to 2040.
